OpenOcean is a leading DEX aggregator, integrating a Herculean number of liquidity sources across a vast range of blockchains into one slick trading interface, bringing users a one-stop trading solution. OpenOcean’s impressive protocol taps into 30 blockchains and more than 1,000 liquidity sources. Whether you’re a mere mortal looking for a good price, or an epic hero chasing arbitrage, you can rely on OpenOcean’s skillful routing.

Hercules endeavors to become the native liquidity layer for the Metis Andromeda network. With a composable, efficient liquidity protocol featuring seamless swaps, staking, real yield, and a launchpad, its flexible features are tailored to protocol-owned liquidity, allowing dynamic fees and customizable incentives packaged in a user-friendly interface.

OpenOcean + Hercules

Before Hercules set sail to capture the Cretan Bull, he probably looked at a bunch of maps (protip: avoid Scylla), shopped around the dockyards for the best ambrosia prices (the author recommends Peychaud’s), and sought the finest linen sails (Grecian, of course). That sounds like a lot of work, even for a demigod.

OpenOcean does all that work for you.

Hercules’ integration of OpenOcean gives DeFi users instant and easy access to both EVM and non-EVM chains, and the liquidity therein, at the click of a button. Add on top of that the speed, efficiency, and security of Metis Andromeda network, and you can see why our fabled hero will just reach for the easy button.

Put simply, this integration allows for deeper and more efficient liquidity for the entire Metis ecosystem and brings users the best possible rates on Metis.

Looking a Little Deeper

Chiron’s with a nice farm family upstate now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn a little something on our own. Metis is the goddess of wisdom, after all, and we weren’t born knowing what a gwei is. So let’s look a little deeper.

OpenOcean provides crafted middleware solutions for Web3 dApps and traders. They offer an incredibly efficient and user-friendly interface with some of the best swap rates with the deepest liquidity across a gargantuan number of chains.

Hercules studied the API for a while before deciding it didn’t have enough marble levers to be usable by mere mortals, but he left some notes for us with “How’s This Work?” scribbled at the top in ancient Greek.

OpenOcean currently aggregates L1 and L2 EVM chains such as Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Fantom, Aurora, Harmony, Gnosis (formerly xDai), Heco, OKC, and Arbitrum, Optimism, Boba, and Metis. It also aggregates non-EVM chains as well, including Solana, Ontology, and TRON. Their capable team is continually adding DEXes and chains, which is a nontrivial task.

This team’s mantra is ‘TAT: Trade Any Token”: Traders should be able to trade any whitelisted tokens from any supported source chain to any tokens on any destination chain. The cross-chain swap mechanism implemented by OpenOcean algorithm finds users highly efficient cross-chain swap routes across all major networks and bridges, taking the gas and bridge costs into consideration. When integrated into Hercules, this will be a single-click experience.

To achieve this, OpenOcean implements Celer’s IM Framework to deliver a one-time approval function. Each time a user submits a swap request, the message is transacted through the Celer State Guardian Network. This allows OpenOcean to offer a single-click cross-chain swap without complicated interactions across multiple blockchains. Further tooling prevents the transaction from being interrupted and will seek to protect users’ funds due to any unexpected errors. Don’t bother getting off the couch.

This team has a few other tricks up their tunic.

OpenOcean’s dApp boasts several other flourishes any degen would appreciate, like gasless limit orders, perpetuals, liquid staking, and more. No visit to the ocean would be complete without a good GitBook.
